Warhammer Ancient Battles Second Edition Available at Salute 2010

Warhammer Historical is proud to announce that the long-awaited second edition of our hugely popular Warhammer Ancient Battles rulebook will be released soon. It will be available only direct from Warhammer Historical but copies will be available from the Warhammer Historical Stand at Salute 2010.

This lavish new edition is extensively illustrated with a plethora of diagrams, artwork and photographs of painted models, as you can see from these sample pagespreads here and here.

This new edition also features a selection of new special rules covering the unique doctrines, cultures and weaponry of ancient times in order to add even greater depth and enjoyment to your games. Warhammer Ancient Battles Second Edition also features fully revised army lists for Romans and Barbarians, and a selection of sample army rosters from across the ancients periods, from the Egyptians of the New Kingdom to the Crusaders.

This full colour large format 216 page hardback book features a fully updated and extensively revised set of rules for playing the epic battles of the ancient world and will be priced at £32.

Just a quick note about list compatibility, and other questions that
come up often:


WAB2 has gone to great lengths to be compatible with the existing
supplements. A full version of all Special rules used across multiple
books is included in the new main rule book, so these new versions and
associated changes are easily disseminated to all players wishing to
play WAB2.

Not only does this mean compatibility with old supplements is updated
simply, it also reduces the amount of repetitive rules forced to be
included in each new supplement, thus allowing a few more pages of
useful content.

Currently the Successor supplement is on track to reach it's submission
date, so I look forward to seeing the reaction to the new rules as
players begin to have at it.

My opinion is the new rules set is much more in tune with its audience,
i.e. players that want fun and competitive games for open tournaments,
one-off scenarios, or historical themed mini-tournament play. Many
rules have been changed but the game flows much better IMHO. Heavier
foot armies will be more advantaged, and skirmishers will be less able
to combat formed units on open ground.

It will be interesting to see what players like and dislike. I'm just
pleased that so many of the corny and poorly described and implemented
WFB hold-out rules such as "lapping round" have been dismissed entirely,
and replaced with more normal and logical rules.

But I don't want to spoil the fun and give out too many opinions, other
than to say that despite what folks may like or dislike about WAB as a
rules set, or gaming experience, or product timelines, WAB2 certainly is
well produced and this book will be a corker in terms of visual appeal.
It seems more like a coffee table book than a rules set.... and yet all
the information is easy to find.

Come previsto, sul Wabforum iniziano a circolare le prime notizie sul nuovo WAB e ci sono dei cambiamenti significativi:

Tutte le truppe saranno stile "AoC": close order, open order o skirmishers. Le light troops scelgono ad inizio partita come schierarsi e così rimangono.(Di sicuro AoC ne guadagna)
Il bonus di ranghi massimo sarà +2 e le truppe in close order avranno un ulteriore +1(mi piace) in pratica le truppe in ordine chiuso hanno un +1 di base, cosa che permette loro di fare a meno di un rango ed allargarsi. (nd Jehan)
Skirmishers fortemente penalizzati nel CaC.
Potranno usare il parthian shot solo le truppe in schermaglia(finalmente le odiose cavallerie superiori turche saranno un po' meno superiori)
La balestra avrà Fo4 solo a corta( :ciaoasd: )
L'handgun tira solo a 18"
La fionda, quando tira i due sassi, ha Fo2.
